Finally the master of british cinema(and my personal hero) Ken Loach gets recognition for his latest film the Wind that Shakes the Barley.

Nice to know that some judges can form opinions themselves rather than go for the expected films(I'm looking at you Oscars)

Can't wait to see this film, its about the Irish Republican movement starting up and is getting rave reviews. Its released over here on the 23rd June.
 
Yes i have seen the trailer on BBC breakfast and i actually said the same thing that i would very much like to see it when its released. Although in 1920s Ireland i fear there may have been some nasty Brits out there giving us a bad image. However i am still looking forward to seeing the film.
 
Well its about the Black and Tans who were pretty damn brutal towards the Irish, so add that to Kens socialist beliefs and its going to be pretty one sided, but as with most of his films, it drags you in by the throat and keeps holding you long after you have seen it
 
Well many of the black and tans were actually criminals conscripted into the army so you could expect their methods rather brutal.
 
When I first started out in film making I sent my first feature length script to Ken Loach -- he was very kind about it -- read it and sent me personal letter pointing out what he liked and what he thought the weaknesses were.

He's probably one of the kindest guys in the business and he really deserves this award.

I haven't seen the film, but I am a fan of his work. Especially "Land and Freedom" his film about the Spanish Civil War.
 
He is one of the very few directors whose work I have followed religiously haven spoken to him in the past.

I wrote him a letter when sweet sixteen was released praising the very real social issues raised within Glasgow that he tackled so well.

His reply was more than corteous. I'm suprised he read it all as it was about 3 pages long :D
