archived-videos LITTLE CANDY HEARTS: A Neo-Noir Short Film

Our latest film LITTLE CANDY HEARTS, is now complete and posted YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDS4gLOMOyM

"Little Candy Hearts" is a highly developed thriller that puts a spin on the stylish film noir story of those who are intrinsically drawn into criminal acts by lust and greed, and who ultimately fall prey to these desires. A modern day LA replaces the bygone Los Angeles of classic noir to serve up a world spanning upscale homes, modern offices, as well as underworld meeting places.

Hope you enjoy!

Wow, really cool stuff.
Lighting and editing was quite ok, and for what I'm used to seeing, acting was great!

Excellent work seatonin!

Yes, it looked great and the acting was definitely a cut above the usual indie dreck.

The production sound was good, but the audio post needs help. The dialog was difficult to hear in some spots. I would have done a lot of Foley and sound FX work. The score was good, but a little too wall-to-wall for my taste; probably because as an audio post type I like to let sounds tell the story and sell the emotions. A better mix would definitely improve the project.

What a fantastic short. Really well done, and you hit the noir feel perfectly. Overall the production value and performances were excellent. The photography was stellar, the moves were well executed, and the color was spot on.

I made some notes:

SPOILERS

* The first kiss the couple makes should have been on the lips.

* @2:35 - the footstep folley was off.

* @3:00 - the room was too echoee...it's not a big deal, but because the rest of the sound was good, it stood out like a sore thumb. As Alcove said above, there could have been a lot more sound design, but overall it was better than most indie work.

* @4:00 - the CU of hanging up on the girlfriend was an unnecessary shot.

* @4:58 - nice roof shot and transition

* @4:25 - great effect and shot.

* @4:47 - great shot here...wonderful composition.

* @7:00 - great shot, lighting, color and transition.

* @7:40 - the pulsing after the beating was...odd...not sure I dig it. Hmmm. I get what you're doing, but I'm not sure about it.

* @10:05 - cocking the gun while it's still inside the box was forced. Also it was held there for a reveal a split-second too long.

* Wide shot of the office with the old man is much brighter than the CU.

* Great camera work while driving at night. Very steady and solid compositions.

* @11:50 - folley of the gun cock was off...it was doubled-up the first pull-back...and then a third click. I don't think that's how a gun sounds when it's cocked. Not a biggie...just small potatoes.

* The entire score is great...solid incidental score.

* @13:15 - great shot

* Great shower photography as brief as it was.

* Fantastic and brutal headshot shot, with solid effects and a great end.

So. Overall I'm a fan. Really solid piece. I love a ton about it, and most of my nit-picks are coming from a very detail oriented standpoint.

As an actor (who's done a ton of crewing), this definitely makes me want to work with you. Facebook page?

Cheers.

Hi M1chael1

Wow thanks for watching the short and the great feedback. It was really helpful and constructive. I'm glad that you enjoyed the work. I agree with a lot of the details you pointed out and it really confirms a lot of the my own issues I had with it. It's hard to tell sometimes from being so close to the work.

I've included some links below, FB page, etc.
