I thought this should go here, I don't know where else.
I'm pondering the idea of doing a small documentary masks in horror, and wanted to maybe recreate some not so well known masks of films like "Alice, Sweet Alice", "Stage Fright",ect. As well as the obviously more well known ones. Obviously showing clips would need permissions, and so forth but what about display?
I mean, I can go and buy recreations of a Jason Vorhees mask on the internet and put it on display at home. I assume I am looking at obtaining permissions to "show" these masks on film? What about the lesser known ones I would recreate? Wondering if royalties would come into it at all. And would it be different if I did an art display of them at a local art museum? Does it all come down to if I'm making money from it? I certainly am not claiming any of the properties as my own-they obviously would obviously get due credit.
Any advice would be appreciated.
