Is this even possible for an indie film maker?

Lets say you are shooting a low budget movie, and in one scene you are driving a cop car down the road... so you have a rented police prop car, and police clothing on... you have a lightbar on your cop car, but you are not going to be turning it on or using sirens...

So how hard would it be to get a permit to do that? because it doesn't require you to have to block off any roads... but you are also impersonating a police officer... right?

and is it even possible for smaller film makers to be able to get that permit??

also... say i dont get a permit and just take the risk and quickly do the shoot without a permit... what is the worst thing that could happen?

CHANCES are that you could do it and shoot it with just a notification to the Police before you shoot. So probably other than the normal expenses, it would cost you nothing.

But you might call the local authorities and ask them. Doing it in NYC or LA is different than Vancouver. Laws are different everywhere, and the attitude of the local police is different. So my advice is ask the right people, because they're the ones who really know.
