Is shooting a feature with old DSLR a good idea in 2015?

I have a Canon 60D in my closet and was considering using it for a feature film this summer. I understand there are better cameras, better DSLR's and better formats (BMC, RED,etc.).

Would using this camera for a serious project (distribution eventually?) be a sound idea or is foolish to attempt? Is a 1080p H.264 system, like this camera, too amateur/antiquated? Am I severely limiting my options by using an older DSLR or am I worrying about nothing? I would like to use this camera- I've figured it out long ago and it feels good in my hands.

If I should avoid using this camera what would be the absolute minimum requirement for a camera system in 2015?

1 in a million chances tho.
Probably a million to one chance of any movie without names getting
into Sundance. The camera used is not a huge factor in getting accepted.
However a great movie shot on an iPhone might have a slight edge do
to the “see what can be done” aspect. Overcoming equipment challenges
is big in festivals.

What makes a movie that is good enough for a major festival or distribution
is rarely the camera. What makes a movie festival or distribution friendly
is the skill and talent of the people using the equipment. Of course the
camera plays a part in something audiences want to see – a poor image
is a negative. Poor audio has even more negative because people will accept
a lower quality image much easier than low quality audio. Poor acting is
the ruin of low budget films more than just about anything. Excellent
actors can overcome almost anything other than poor audio.

But the specific camera is pretty low on the list of what makes a movie
watchable or unwatchable. Yet it is the most asked question.

Jon, I'm sure you have a terrific script and great actors for your first serious
project. Make sure you have excellent audio and lighting. Surround yourself
with skilled, talented people and that 60D will be just fine for making a
movie people will want to pay to see.
