Interesting to me, boring to you...

Recording weapons is a highly specialized - and expensive - segment of audio post. What makes it expensive is the insurance, hiring the armorer, booking the firing range and, of course, all of the ammunition. That doesn't include the multiple track recorder and the large selection of mics required.

Mostly because of the expense I haven't done any large-scale weapons recording. The only weapons recording I have done is when I go out to the range with my brother-in-law and his friends. The recordings come out thin, mostly because I' not really doing it seriously; I just set up my mics about 10 feet away and then join in the fun blasting targets and clay pigeons.
