Indie Filmmakers & Relationships

Heya guys n' gals, I'm new to the site and I have an agenda to I'll be brief with the intro:

My name is Brandon A. English, an amateur indie filmmaker in north Louisiana. Completed two short films earlier this year and am in pre-production for a short war film. About to obtain my first degree in December, and the going to Japan next year to study the language and culture; eventually will be shooting a full feature there, in Japanese.

So!

I've "googled" this repeatedly and I have failed to find anything at all about it, so I decided to hit these forums.

I'm currently single and know that soon and for the rest of my life I'll be traveling the world and filming all over the place. This is not traditional in any sense nor is it practical or even slightly desirable in most women's eyes, so my question is this: is there a certain type of woman that would be better than another when looking for a spouse? More specifically, is it best to have a mate who works in the same field, or is it possible to take her with you wherever you go even if she isn't directly involved? I have to say that I really like the idea of having my wife work alongside me and use sharing the same goals in life with film, changing the world and traveling everywhere, and I still want to have a family.

I've been thinking more about this recently since big changes are coming after my graduation. I appreciate all of your positive thoughts!

It helps to have a significant other who shares your passion (just like with everything else). My fiance is a photographer, so we both have weak knees when it comes to camera gear :)
I also include her in everything that I'm doing and giving her a producer credit.

Nope.

Just do what you gotta do.
Git yerr a$$ to work.

Significant others are either a hindrance or asset to your personal development.
Good luck on finding a balance between two masters.
Take the cash over the girl.

You're thinking too much. You have no idea what you're going to be doing for the rest of your life. Your next step sounds adventurous -- do that! Figure out the rest as you get to it.

Relationships with anyone are tough in this field, be it a significant other or simply friends. IMO, you need to follow your dream - if that takes you around the world, that's great. If it means you stay in Japan for a long period of time, that's great too.

Your closest friends are often colleagues - those that don't work in the industry don't really understand why you can't take a day off for their/your birthday/anniversary or why you can only see them one day a week at most for the next 20 weeks that you're engaged on a TV drama. Or even why you can't plan too much in advance in case you get work booked.

You need friends/spouses who are really, really understanding :)

But, you're young. Chase the dream before you worry too much about settling down.
