If I Sell My Horror Script via a Lawyer -

what would be a reasonable percentage/amount to give him?

He previously asked me if I was interested in selling my female led action script so I thought it made sense to tell him about my horror script - he's a top entertainment lawyer.

Thanks!

You have piqued my curiosity. Not with your question however that seems pretty simple. If he's a top entertainment lawyer I imagine he will tell you what percentage he will take. But more importantly due to your vagueness I'm curious, did you sell your female led action script? If not, then why?

A reasonable percentage is anywhere from 10% to 30%. Since he is
a top entertainment lawyer I know he will have a number in mind. I
suggest you seriously consider whatever number this top entertainment
lawyer suggests.

I know you aren't interested in selling "Killer Eyes" and if I remember
correctly you started writing the horror script just a few weeks ago. You
mentioned it March 31. Is it finished and ready to sell already?

BTW: how is "Killer Eyes" going? Did that production company come through?

Hi - thx for asking. The reason is that I want to make the movie myself. You can see the website at www.KillerEyesMovie.com. The latest on that is that a name actor's agent has asked to see lines for the role of Mickey Malone, the part I want the actor to play.

Actually I would really like to make this movie too and have great actors for it who are already cast in 'Killer Eyes'.

Thx for your reply directorik. Actually I started writing the horror script a while ago - along with a few others which are unfinished. The most I've written on one is 70 pages of an animation script which I since heard is very difficult to sell. Does anyone know anything different about that? I heard that unless you're working with/for Dreamworks, forget it.

Thx for asking about 'Killer Eyes' - haven't heard back from the production company yet.

I heard of another teeny little company that does animation from time to time. You might have heard of them? Pixar?

There is some independent animation films that you see released from time to time, so it does get made.

a manager - is that much the same as an agent?

About as much the same as an uber driver and a racecar driver. One's a manager, one is an agent.

You absolutely do NOT need an agent to deal with the lawyer. You
have a top entertainment lawyer interested in brokering a deal for
one of your scripts.

Take the deal!

But then...

You don't want to sell screenplays, you want to direct the movies. So I think
lawyers interested in your scripts and agents and managers isn't the path
you should be taking. Ask this top entertainment lawyer if he can broker a deal
for you to direct your female led action script.

Thx directorik. When he replies will do as you suggest. Great idea.

Agree with directorik. With the entertainment attorney selling your script. he is doing part of the duty of an agent and manager. In this case, you can save some commission as long as he is working in your interest.
