I have no "mic input",what can I use?

Hi everyone!
Recently I joined this nice community and I came across a lot of useful info I needed. As of now, I'm still in the learning phase, well pretty much catching up on theory and all to continue on with my small project. I'm planning on buying an external "shotgun" mic (preferably an NTG-2 or you could advise something better), and I noticed that my camcorder doesnt have a freakin "mic input". Jesus, what are the odds of that anyway, I wanna know if there is any other alternative besides the fact that you need a mic input (which my cam doesnt have)... Thanx in advance!

You'll need to get some external recording device that your mic can plug into. It's not extremely uncommon for consumer-grade cameras (especially less expensive ones, which I take it you have because you call it a 'camcorder') to not have XLR inputs--these are the inputs you need for your mic to plug directly into your camera.

I suggest you read this article: http://www.iofilm.co.uk/io/mit/001/good_sound.php

I'm sure Alcove Audio (a member here) can help you out further if he sees this post.

Good luck.

actually, it cost about 470 € ( which is about 700 dollars) give or take. I'm not sure what "cheap" means these days, but it's pretty far out(It's a Sony DCR-SR57E, 60x optical zoom-in). I also read that previous Sony cameras had a mic input and that they stopped making them. Oh yeah, about Alcove Audio, Ive sent him a PM asking him about it. thank a lot! :) Could you tell me if this is a good camera to record and all?
