Hi from London

Hello from London!

I'm working my way up to shooting a feature and think I should thank some of the posters here for some of the help - I've been lurking for a little while, think some of the comments have been invaluable.

Part of my motivation is being haunted by the cr@p film making company my dad worked for (he was in admin). They specialised in cr@p, straight to video films with big 'brand' names (e.g. Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde) with hastily written scripts, fast shooting and not really caring about quality. The objective was to shoot as cheaply as possible purely to make money.

The CEO made a fortune but I grew up thinking 'how can anybody produce this cr@p...?' followed by 'I want to do better.' Right now, when I see the EOS 5, the Steadicam kit and the affordability, I think the moment is now.

I have written a strong story and am working on the elements that need to go into a shoot. However, I need as much experience as possible so have been acting, writing music, holding booms etc... on a few shoots around London to see what works and what doesn't.

My background is music and I used to be paid to play piano (in a bar in the South of France) and as a classical pianist, won a couple of prizes, played for Channel 4 etc... but this is 20+ years ago. Therefore, I have been happily working on other peoples' shorts playing the piano, composing, giving musical input, acting (in French or Chinese), holding a boom or being a producer organising everything (I am ferociously organised).

So hello to everyone and as a former lurker, I also want to say 'thank you for the help,' so far and hope to meet some of you soon.

Welcome, i am myself like you and new to all of this so i am willing to get my hands dirty as much as possible to find out what it is like working in the real world lol.

Cool sounds like you've got a goodstart on many first-time filmmakers! :)

Thanks but let's see how far organisation, desire, commitment some cash and a script take me. Next year I need good amateurs around me to create something good.

This means lots of weekends of commitment.

If you know anyone...
