Welcome to IndieTalk. Detroit is currently riding a huge wave of independent filmmaking...lots of people on the scene, very accommodating and friendly to one another and one another's projects. Lots of opportunity for screening, too, including a monthly no-entry-fee festival called the Mitten Movie Project, where many Detroit filmmakers first screen their work.
Gov. Snyder's decision to revoke the film tax incentives is terrible, but I have a feeling it will only help indie projects. It was a heckuva lot easier to get permits and permission before the tax incentives brought major productions to town. I imagine it will become that way again once major productions aren't the norm.
My name is Joe, my website is below, and if you're a filmmaker in Detroit I'm sure we'll meet someday very soon.
