I'm going to be shooting my first feature ever this fall, and I was wondering if it is going to seriously cripple my sound, in both quality and control, if I don't use an actual hardware sound mixer?
I was planning on using shotgun mics XLR'ed directly into the camera itself, and control levels from the camera. Would this be a big mistake?
I will be shooting on a Canon XH-A1.
I really don't have the money in the budget for a $1000+ sound mixer hardware, but if it is an absolute necessity to getting decent quality sound then I guess I'll have to postpone the movie, which will be a really, really big problem.
All feedback is welcome, thanks guys.
