GUAM, USA TO HOST FIRST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
HAGATÑA, GUAM, USA (MAY 23, 2011) – Guam USA, where America’s day begins, is proud to announce that the island will host its first ever Guam International Film Festival (GIFF) from September 30 - October 2, 2011. Details about the inaugural event were released this week by GIFF Founders and Executive Producers Don and Kel Muña. The inaugural Guam International Film Festival will be a three day event taking place in the unique cultural destination of Guam, USA. GIFF is the first and only annual U.S. film festival in the western pacific.
Only a few hours away from major international metropolitan cities such as Sydney, Manila, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, and Hong Kong, Guam has always served as the global gateway to an eclectic mix of professionals from the US, Asia and Pacific rim offering a platform to exchange opportunities in business and entertainment.
With an abundance of creative talent and worldwide recognition emerging from Asia and the Western Pacific, GIFF aims to unify, celebrate and showcase to the region and the world, the collective experience through the universal medium of film. GIFF proudly presents itself as an international cinema event exhibiting a new and dynamic source of cross-cultural artistic presence, bridging gaps among the U.S., Asia and the Pacific’s multi-cultural population and region.
GIFF strives to capture the passion and spirit of independent filmmakers and their films as we showcase them to the Pacific Asia region.
The Guam International Film Festival is breaking new ground in its inaugural year. GIFF Executive Producers and founders, Don and Kel Muña, recruited the event expertise of Hollywood celebrity event planner and former Paramount Studios director of development, J.D. Iriarte, as Festival Director.
“GIFF is crucial to the evolution of entertainment and moviemaking on Guam, and it only makes sense that it is brought together by Guam’s first full-length movie creators, the Muña Bros.”, says Iriarte.
The mission of the Guam International Film Festival is to elevate and promote Guam as a unique cultural destination for leisure, arts, entertainment and business through its people, facilities and hospitality while providing opportunities for local businesses and local talent to flourish through the international cinema market.
“The concept behind GIFF is to bring Guam’s local talent to the forefront and to showcase our island hospitality, rich culture and panoramic landscape to the world,” said GIFF Co-Executive Producer Don Muña.
The three day festival will feature special events including screenings of international independent films including Pacific Asian films, filmmaking workshops, gala events and awards ceremonies. More details involving the official GIFF inaugural line-up and celebrity attendance at the festival will be made available at a later date.
