Heywood Gould, screenwriter of Rolling Thunder, Fort Apache, The Bronx, Cocktail, Boys From Brazil among others is offering his commissioned but "shelved" screenplays, free, on his blog on his website (heywoodgould.com) under the title "Movies You Will Never See." The first is called Empires of Crime, seven years in development as a six part mini-series. Here is his take on the subject.
"For every movie that is released there are hundreds of scripts that were commissioned, “developed”, written, restructured---and rewritten; reconceived, redeveloped---and rewritten; rejected, rescued--- and rewritten; restored to their original state and---rewritten. Acquired in “turnaround” by another production entity which redeveloped, reconceived, rewrote, rejected, rescued, restored and finally---shelved them.
Enjoy.
