Free NYC Screenwriting Group Seeking New Members

For those who live in or around New York City: We're seeking
additional members for a free screenwriting group that meets
Tuesday evening every two weeks in Manhattan.
(You can find our Web page at www.NYScreenwriters.org.)

We're dedicated writers who get together to have our screenplay
pages read/performed by fellow members and receive feedback.
We greatly enjoy each other's company and making each other laugh,
but our goals are serious -- we're aiming to create screenplays
excellent enough to sell. Most of us are professional writers in
other fields (e.g., broadcast journalism, books, music) and
relatively new to movie scripting, but understand the
fundamentals (instigating event, three-act structure, etc.)
and have a very strong understanding of storytelling.

We want to add some more sharp, friendly, highly talented writers
with professional attitudes. Membership is free, but anyone interested
in joining must submit a writing sample.

Therefore, if you think we might be helpful to you and vice versa,
please email the first act (i.e., first 30-40 pages) from one of
your screenplays in PDF/Acrobat, plain text, MS Word, or Final Draft
format to NYScreenwriters@aol.com, along with a description of your
writing background, your name, and a phone number.

(Before you send your screenplay to anyone, by the way, you should
register it with the Writers Guild of America East, for $22, via
Web site www.wgae.org. It takes only a few minutes and is well worth
the peace of mind.)

Please know up front that we're pretty tough on writing samples
(albeit with no judgments on inner talent or future potential),
so we reluctantly pass on a number of applicants. That said,
if you feel you'd benefit from meeting with fellow screenwriters
every two weeks to have your pages read aloud and to trade feedback,
we'd love to hear from you and hope that you’ll give us a try.

If you have any questions, please direct them to our
email address; again, it's NYScreenwriters@aol.com.
