Floor Plan and Shot List

Hello All:

I am making my 20-minute short film and I am in the process of preparing the floor plan and the shot list.

Normally I use Excel to do the floor plan. Excel takes lot of time to put the furnitures, doors, windows, camera and the subject. I was told by one of my friend to use Adobe Illustrator. I don't have Adobe and at this point I cannot buy one.

What would be the best tool to draw the floor plan? Best in the sense, that takes less time and produce decent quality.

We have actually used Google sketchup to produce 3D mockups of constructed sets (like the set for The Island). If we aren't constructing the set, I have never bothered to do a floor plan. We just take photos of the location.

There's an iPhone app called "Magic Plan CSI" that will produce floorplans with your phone... marry that with "123d Catch" and either blender or skethup and you're off and running faster than doing it all by hand.
