Flea Markets: Your Friend

This morning, while browsing the local flea market, I found a like-new Manfrotto 755B tripod with 3130 micro-fluid head bundle that retails for $498. He sold it to me for only (dramatic pause) $12.

The poor seller had no idea what he had and just wanted to get rid of it. Sure it has a small scratch on the side, but other than that, it's flawless.

For a broke indie filmmaker like myself, I think I'll be spending more weekends at flea markets.

What awesome bargains have other indie filmmakers like yourself found? I'd love to hear your story.

I scored an all aluminum very mechanical not fluid head tripod for $25 and an Elmo Slim-Line 16mm projector for $25 (With a metal and plastic reel). The Elmo took some cleaning, and the tripod I had to put a new screw in just because the Kras takes a larger screw. Been very pleased with both.

Almost scored a Yashicamat for $100. THAT would have been sweet. But it would have been another $100 for a Beattie screen.

Awhile ago I got a REALLY nice bausch and lomb tripod with fluid head and everything and then my friend dropped it on a tile floor and it was done for :(

I've gotten still cameras cheap at flea markets (or as they call it in So Cal, swap meets).

Don't forget auctions...I had a friend who got a banquet table full of antique wind-ups for 10.00 and another table of polaroid cameras for 1.00.

...I found a Fujica Single 8 Z600 at a flea market for $4. I would have given them $4 dollars, but it was half off day, so I got it for $2. I have no idea what I will do with it, but I couldn't just leave it there all by itself  ...
