First Feature Idea.

I have a thought for what I could do as my first feature, I mean, I have several shorts to work on and I wanna write them, but, when the time comes to do a feature, I've had an idea and I'm wondering if it's a good starting point.
It'll be an adaptation of Goethe's "Faust", with the screenplay largely derived from the play. Since it's a story that interests me a great deal I'd love to do a film of it at some point and I feel like quite a lot could be done from an artistic way to create a good atmosphere and to maybe add horror elements to it and some surreal visuals.
Thoughts?

keep in mind that there are numerous adaptations of the Faustus legend.
Goethe's "Faust" and Marlowe's "Doctor Faustus" are the most famous ones, afaik;
ever thought of creating your own adaptation instead of "adapting an adaptation"?

It's certainly a good possibility. I mean, I'm drawn to the Faustus legend because of the characters of Faust and Satan. I mean, they can work off each other well and.. I dunno, it's possible to do lots with it, maybe even create some form of homosexual tension. xD

I don't see why you couldn't. I'd have to re-read it to dig further into that - but male/male relationships (even heterosexual ones) are often fraught with a sort of bizarre sexual tension of one sort or another.

I would definitely shy away from the norm here though. So much has been done with Faust, but if you can find a way to make it your own you've tapped into common lore which helps people relate to your story and characters.
