Our short film, Fireflies, has concluded its festival circuit run, picking up several nominations and awards along the way. Some positive moments include winning the Indie Soul Award for Best Director at the 2017 Boston International Film Festival, where the film premiered; the Sumner Redstone Award for Best Alumni Short last spring; and screenings at, among others, the 35th anniversary celebration of the Rhode Island International Film Festival, the Directors Guild of America, and the prestigious 40th Cairo International Film Festival.
Fireflies tells the story of a withdrawn Middle Eastern man, whose frequent visits to a Boston cafe begin to draw the suspicion of the establishment's headwaiter. Tackling a virtually wordless story about profiling posed some risks and challenges, but our hope was to stimulate thought and meaningful discussion among audiences.
