filming inside of a hotel room, cause any problems?

So for the release of cabin in the woods lionsgate is having a short film contest, of course all work must be yours so no copyrighted material, so if i were to get permission to shoot in a hotel room, would i need to sign papers and what not to submit with my film?

I'm no expert so anything I say is purely opinion...

I would say if you the opportunity get a signed release form for the location, but I haven't ever had to prove to someone that I was allowed to use a location. I haven't seen the film, but apparently for human centipede in a scene they wanted to film along a highway. They requested permission but were denied but decided to film their anyway, and this is on a professional set. I don't know if they got in trouble, but usually I think that locations are overlooked. Organizers care a lot more about music and your actors

Every shoot I've ever worked on the Producers have gotten releases from/for the location. You never know what's going to happen, especially if the film gains some notoriety.

Better to cover all bases than leave it up to chance.

I think that as long as you don't show brands and stuff then you should be good to go. I would reckon that a hotel room would be private anyway.

There are also a lot of Hollywood films where filmmakers can't get permissions to a location and instead rely on GUERRILLA FILMMAKING. I don't think they had trouble doing it.

In Los Angeles legally you need a permit to shoot everywhere except a soundstage. Having said that, I don't know of many microbudget filmmakers who can even afford permits. I always try to cut corners on those expensive permits if I think I can get away with it. Who the hell would pay the city of LA to shoot in your own home or business if you have a tiny crew?
If you try to get a location release from a hotel they will want to see insurance for sure. Will they want to verify that you have a permit? Doubtful. When shooting in hotels without a location release just be careful to sneak your equipment in without the desk people noticing. Be on the low low!
Nobody is gonna know that you shot a movie at some hotel without a location release. If they found out then the most they could demand is a fair price for shooting there. There's no punitive damages or anything like that. I know that for a fact from talking to a lawyer.
