This seems to be the heart of what they have to say:

"Realistically the purpose of signing with a DVD sales agent and/or distributor is for them to get your product into PHYSICAL STORES - not merely to sell your DVD's on Internet, which ANYONE CAN EFFECTIVELY DO."

I would disagree. Selling 20-50 copies of my movie on Amazon is not what I would call effective. It's not what I'm aiming for but for some I'm sure that would be fantastic, which is fine. Internet distribution is and should be one's last resort for a movie that has failed to gather attention from a distro co. / studio. I don't want to waste my time trying to market and sell my movie on Amazon. I simply don't have the connections to sell thousands of copies that way. I still believe traditional distribution companies have that ability... the connections..

A quote from the second "article"

"The biggest disappointment was for me when I ordered a copy of one of my films, just to see how it looked. It arrived in a slim jewel case, not a standard one. The DVD art I had designed was nowhere to be seen. The disc was simply a HUGE “IndieFlix” graphic, with the title of my film written across the bottom. On the back, a small still image from my movie sat against the IndieFlix pre-designed background, and a blurb. On this particular disc (though I’m assured this is not the norm) they had mixed up the credits and given the directing credit to another filmmaker."

That sounds... encouraging... :P

I agree with everything that you have written here.

Faith and wishful thinking are great but look in Best Buy and see how many of a distributor's new releases are or aren't actually on their shelves. That's the true test of their abilities. Usually it takes a buzz or names attached to a movie for stores to carry titles. It doesn't matter if so and so distributor handles it. These stores get pushed all kinds of titles every day. They just don't have enough shelf space to take everything. Once the push to get chain stores to carry a title fail then you're left with Internet distribution.

If a movie only sells 20 - 50 copies on Amazon it's because it has no media buzz.
