FCP Cross Dissolve

This is a really stupid problem but it has been really pissing me off lately. In FCP 6 I have a clip and I split it and I try to apply a cross dissolve between the two. The transition appears in the timeline and I can edit it and everything. The only problem is when I hit play, no cross dissolve happens, it just cuts right to the next clip.

This isn't a time problem, as I have plenty of time before and after in the clips i want to dissolve. I can even make the transition as long as i want, it simply doesn't do anything. Please Help!! This is so annoying and I would love some help!

are you cross dissolving between two parts of the same clip that you've split with the razor blade tool?

Could you show us a screen shot of the timeline...

Can you double click the transition to bring up the transition editor and see that it looks like it's supposed to in there?

As a basic user, you'll probably have to use something like dropbox.com to share the files.

Using a cross dissolve on two parts of the same clip is normally to get rid of some piece of dialog in an interview that is unwanted or unnecessary ("Ums" or "Ahs" usually). Not seeing the transition in this case is a win.

Well, if you haven't adjusted the in/out point of one of the clips, technically all your transition is doing is fading into another identical clip...therefore you won't see the dissolve. You've got to split the clip then shorten either the first or second to see any fade.
