AaarrrghhhhhH!!!!!!!!!!!! A bit annoying.
As an an FCP 7.03 user who is playing with 4k, I absolutely had to upgrade and chose FCP Xi. The good news is it works, it's much quicker for the simple stuff and it is exponentially faster in terms of rendering etc... than the old FCP. The negative is there are still a few niggly, annoying elements such as a lack of roundtripping with Motion, the GUI still isn't quite right out of the box etc...
Pluses: Faster, simpler, can handle heavy lifting e.g. 4k.
Minuses: Aaaaargghhhhhh... So many little annoying 'features' and a lack of fine control in so many areas. And don't get me started on sound.
I had to upgrade but otherwise, didn't need to bother. Sure, it's quicker - no doubt about it... but I do miss the fine control and advanced features of FCP 7.03 which in some cases have not yet appeared on FCP X.
Verdict: Worth upgrading for the speed, absolutely necessary for me with 4k and raw and I suspect most of the remaining 'major' issues will be rectified over the coming 12 months.
