I just bought a 2TB WD My Book Studio for my DSLR footage. It's Firewire, so I can use the footage straight from that to work on Leading Lady.
At the moment I have a 1 TB that's USB and it's almost full of footage. With this drive I have to copy the clips (from each scene) to my desktop, create my scene in FCP and then "media Manage them" into a much smaller file. So, it's a few extra steps in order to edit.
My question is if I transfer the 900gigs that's on the USB drive and then add the rest of the movie, which might be another 900 gigs, will FCP and the HD slow down? I'm thinking it might as the HD fills up.
I already have quite a few scenes edited. So, I'm thinking about keeping those on the USB and combining them when I'm done with everything else. But, if the HD should work fine filled then I'll just put it all on this drive.
