I am an electrical engineer originally from Germany who worked in various places around the world. The past four years I spent in Chinas heavy industry. Living in Beijing I became more and more interested in photography, took some classes and met interesting creative people. Being quite unhappy with my job I eventually remembered what I always wanted to do; Camera! Yep it’s an old childhood dream being the cameraman. So I started looking into a way to learn operating a camera; found out about schools which only purpose my opinion is, to gain money. Watching countless videos about movie making on the Internet made by many different people who are sharing their professional knowledge for free, I came up with an idea!
There must be hundreds of people out there making independent movies who are working on a small budget; and I want to learn about anything related with filmmaking. Could there be a better way to learn about the business then working in the middle of it?
Ok that’s the deal:
I will go back to Europe by the end of 2012 and then get in my old VW Van to find filmmakers all over Europe. So if you are working on a project anywhere in Europe I would be happy to offer my help in exchange for a place to park my camper and some of your knowledge and experience.
I offer:
- Some experience in DSLR filming
- DSLR rig and some gear
- Good electrical engineering skills
- Strong management skills
- A 30 year old camper van
I need:
- Experience in operating a camera
- Experience in any kind of filmmaking related work
- Nice passionate people who are willing to share their knowledge
- A place to park my camper
What do you guys think about my plan? Interesting? Stupid?
