The European Independent Film Festival announces
Launch of the inaugural European Independent Film Festival which will be held in Paris, France from the 22nd to the 25th of March 2006.
Executive director Scott Hillier is pleased to announce that the web-site for the European Independent Film Festival 2006 (otherwise known as the ECU Film Festival 2006) has gone on-line and all of the festival’s details can be found at www.ecufilmfestival.com
The festival will give European independent film makers a chance to expand their creative horizons as their colleagues, the public and a panel of internationally respected judges critique their work. The festival is also an attractive prospect for film buyers, producers and talent spotters who will be in attendance – all looking for the latest film making talent from the European Continent. While the festival is a showcase of European film making talent, there are a limited number of categories for foreign films i.e. films from America, Asia and Africa.
At the launch event Mr Hillier, himself an award-winning film maker, said:
“It is a fact that European independent film makers rarely get attention outside of their respective countries. The ECU Film Festival has been created to give European independent film makers, all of whom are hungry to tell their stories, an arena where they can project their films, interact with their fellow European film makers and show audiences – who are getting tired of formulaic cinema- that ‘Old Europe’ makes great independent films. I believe that we will show that independent films with a ‘Made-in–Europe’ label are just as good as those from America.”
Franco Pistillo is on the judging panel.
“Every year The Sundance Film Festival brings worldwide attention to American independent film makers with many of the films getting bought right there in the cinema. The ECU Film Festival’s goal is to give the same opportunities to the hundreds of independent European film makers who make incredible films, but fly way below the radar of festivals like Cannes or Venice.”
After the festival, the award-winning films will be taken on the road for projections in cinemas from New York City, Los Angeles and Sydney to Beijing and Moscow.
