Editing Dialogue

in real life, when you observe two people in conversation, you usually hear someone begin a sentence before you look at them. In your video here, the camera cuts to the other person and afterwards they proceed to say their line. It feels very acted.

Plus there are the obvious issues with sound. Each angle has a different room tone, which doesn't help.

To me, it felt staged. Jerky. Forced.

Try an exercise. It'll help you with editing dialogue scenes. Try editing it without seeing anyone speak a single word. Totally done with reaction shots, cut aways and inserts. While it's not the end result that you'll want, it'll help you understand more about using the reaction shots and extra shots to make dialogue scenes stronger and show you how important (less important actually) seeing the person who is speaking, especially when the performance, camera work or production design is less than stellar.
