Editing Books - Need help!

Hi all!

I am new within the industry of filmmaking. Besides recommendations one can read in places like Amazon, based ones experience what great video editing books are out there for purchase? I understand that half of the battle is coming up with your own editing style, however; at this point I would like to pick up a great book and learn a few ground rules in video editing. Any guidance will be highly appreciated!

Thanks!

READ THESE!!!

I have two books you simply must read- multiple times, preferably...

1.) Filmmaking for Dummies

2.) The DV rebels guide to making killer action movies on the cheap.

Buy 'em, read 'em.

Cheers and Good Luck with your filmmaking,

Steve

Many years ago, I bought the first edition of The Filmmaker's Handbook and was amazed at how much information was stuffed in one book. Now, the 2008 third edition has everything updated for the digital age. I believe this book is a must have for anyone serious about the craft. 80 pages alone are dedicated to video editing.

A lot of those books appear to be more general. A good book I bought that is more editing specific is "Cut by Cut: Editing Your Film Or Video" . It first looks at the entire post production process from an editors point of view, then goes into editing specifics. Although it doesn't teach you the craft as, like you said, it's something you need to learn yourself it teaches a lot about matching shots, mistakes in editing, etc.
