Recording times are shorter on a DSLR. You will only be able to record between 15-30min full HD files at at time, depending on the camera. You certainly have to add in the cost to "rig it up" and record sound separately, buy using a ZoomH4 or some other recorder. You are thinking about XHG1, which is a approx. a $6000 camera. Personally, I would consider a EX1 or HPX300; they both shoot 1080P for same price; but the cards are at least $600.00. The HDV cam will give you more manual functions to shoot with, and will make you more appealing to do corporate videos, weddings etc. You will not be as limited in your time to record like the DSLR. You can make a good DIY 35mm adapter for about $150.00 to $300.00 dollars. You can run your mic, right into the XLR instead of recording sound separately.
