Documentary Questions..

-- If I do a documentary that has to do with the "Arizona Cardinals" (not directly about the team, but lets say its about the adventures of some of their fans ).. do I have to get written permission from the Arizona Cardinal organization, as I would be mentioning/talking about the Cardinals, and there would probably be "logos" appearing everywhere in the film.

-- If I shoot a "crowd" scene (like a busy sidewalk, or a football stadium), do I have to get written signatures from EVERY single person whose face appears in that shot?? How do they get all those signatures, if they shoot a large crowd scene? That seems impossible, and very limiting.

Any advice.. thank you!

Yes, you need permission to show their logo(s). (My wife does lots of work with the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, etc. using their logos on products. They are EXTREMELY anal about who, where, how and why their logos are used, and even minor deviations from the official logo can result in huge problems.)

Consult with an attorney on this one. BUT... You will need to obtain permits to shoot in public places. Different jurisdictions have different rules/statutes/ways of dealing with privacy and "permissions." BTW, you may have noticed that news and other programs are blurring out faces these days. If you shoot at the stadium you will need permission from the stadium, and they will have their own rules on "permissions." When you go to a stadium it is part of the ticket that you give permission for use of your likeness for the purposes of game broadcast and associated audio/visual presentations. I have no idea how that would apply to your situation.
