DIRECTING/SCREENPLAY-noob alert

Hello guys.I'm such a nwebie,I dont even know this clearly.And I'm an aspring direcot.Beat that. :(
Anyways,I planning to make a short as soon as I grad out of my high school this may. So,have this doubt.

Could some one, precisely explain what does a director does when you a screenwriter already writes the dialougues and screenplay.Plus, what exactly does a screenplay mean?Suggestions for actors ,what to do on the screen?

Plus,I also want to know,what exactly,directing a film means.
Thanks :)

Well, a screenplay is the script of a film, although it's formatted differently to say, a play script and you use certain programmes to write screenplays in the correct format.

Well... A director is someone who... Directs. You have a vision of the film (particularly if you wrote it) and try and achieve it, you talk to actors about what they're doing how you think they should try it etc. There are lots of different ways to direct, although I can't go into all of them, but the one I do is strongly rooted in the theatrical way of directing actors, as I study theatre.

Hope this helps :)

If you have any films on DVD, look through them at the backs, look at the extras. Anything EXTRA with the director or writer - watch it. There's much to be learned that way alone.

Just to add, when one person is doing it all, it doesn't get to be as problematic, if the screenplay is written, and the director(same person) needs changes, it's easy for them to change it-it's their own work.

Where it gets TRICKY-is when one person writes up the screenplay, gives it to the director and the director goes with it. If the director wants something different, or something "doesn't work" it can get back to the screenplay writer, who if they LIKE their work, and don't want to change it....you see where the problems are.

The director does just that, lays out the scene, tells people where to go (:D) and directs on set. Backstage/props/budget ect is NOT the directors job. If you can check out how many different positions there are on a film or stage crew, and see how much each person really just has a set of responsiblities :)
