Crime Web Series

Hi Guys, I'm about to start script development for a relatively major short film or Web Series but I wanted to get an idea of what people thought of the concept.

I'm currently a big fan of shows like The Mentalist, CSI and Sherlock Holmes. I was originally going to make a 20minish short film following similar basic concepts, but after making a quick 3min crime movie this time last year for a 48 hour film comp I wanted to use the characters more and develop it into a bit of a webseries but with a continuing mystery, like Red John in Mentalist.

What are peoples opinions on a series of perhaps 6 episodes of short crime stories which each episode lasting around 10 minutes. Pretty much I'm asking are you willing to watch it and do you think a quick decent crime can be pulled off (multiple times-multiple episodes) in the space of around 10minutes.

Here is the film I created last year for an idea of story structure though ignore the ending it is crap.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7MsttRKuYI
I probably wouldn't include the comedic elements in the web series..

Thanks guys!
Brendan

I think the above poster is correct in what he says.....

The major problems you will face are that there are so many crime series out there now... what will make yours different?

Big studios can pump out the same as everyone else as they have the money to throw at it to promote it, independently you wont, so it has to have some kind of hook to separate it and get people interested/intrigued....

If you start with characters that people can identify with/care about, write killer story lines around them, shoot it to the best of your ability, capture/edit/post great audio, and promote the living hell out of it, you may well have a successful venture. This assumes that you want people other than the family and friends of the cast and crew to watch it.

What are the attributes to the most recent web series you've watched?
Are your production skills able to provide similar content?

A few months back I reviewed a web series release ANGEL OF DEATH: http://www.indietalk.com/showthread.php?t=38814

I don't know what the overall feedback was for the producer, as in how it translated into any monetary return or critical praise, but I don't believe major principals involved went on to make any more web series.

In other words there may be a poor return on your resources invested.
