Costuming for an Oak forest

I'm making a music video in an oak forest in a few hours, just a casual acoustic one and my musician asked what clothes he should wear... well I'm no constume designer or anything, so I have little idea.

ANY IDEAS??

Doesn't help when we're still deciding the song haha...

It's pretty much a spontaneously organised music video, not always the best way to do things, but last time we did it we came out with some decent stuff

Wow Google adds this pretty quickly. I'm still searching around on Google for suggestions and search 'costuming for forest' got excited when I saw this post then realised they were my own words haha

You don't want him to dress like this...

And this may be going too far the other way.....

Lots of ways to go. It really does (and should depend) on the style of the song and/or artist. Some examples:
-are you going for the medieval/traditional folk thing? more costume-y, ren-fest style stuff might be the way to go
-is it more on the psychedelic end? crazy patterned shirts, outlandish vests, these things could all work
-a little spooky? interesting black clothes never go out of fashion (for certain values of fashion)
-singer/songwriter acoustic music? Well dressed, casual button down shirts, etc
-quirky/hipster folk? Alcove's second suggestion might not be out of line!
-folk punk? well worn clothes that look like you've slept in them for a week work here. Bonus points for actually sleeping in them for a week.
-all of the above and then some? Hell, why not.

So figure out what you're trying to say with the song and the costuming can work to support that.

Just one guy, 19 years old. I would say no budget and we're just choosing from his own wardrobe but still need something that would suit. As Aclove mentioned you have both ends of the extreme...

Josh basically "singer/songwriter acoustic music? " but we're just trying to find something that will suit a green forest. I'm heading to his house pretty soon anyway for some prep so I guess well just look for something that works..

Pick something red-ish.

Also, consider that if the forest is largely green you could chroma key out the greenery and overlay the video onto a different background.

Could make for a fun & freaky effect!

Lol of course...

We ended up going with a blue ish denim jacket which seemed to work really well

Sorry i'm a bit late to the party here, but I would've suggested somthing like that anyway.

You picked what is called an analogous colour scheme - the colours are next to each other on the wheel. These schemes create a nice harmonious look, great for when you want something to fit in with it's surroundings.

It's not just as simple as moving around the wheel though, as factors like saturation, brightness, and the exact hue (ie a greeny blue, or a purply blue) all affect the psychological and artistic interpretation of the look.

Good choice though. I look forward to seeing how you get on with it. :)

For further reading, google for some colour theory and composition tutes, especially those that deal with colour gamut (which will give you a section of the wheel to pick 'sucessful' schemes from), which many here would likely find useful for future art direction in thier films.

Just ignore any that teach you that green is opposite to red on the wheel. This is primary school simplification at best, and following these wheels will give you some tacky looking schemes that look off to the eye.

now this is my area of expertise :) personally think of the colors you will see in a forest..mostly dry brown seeing how things are dying off this time of year..your best bet..i nice dark brown leather jacket..definitely a white shirt underneath to create a pop without standing out too much..good pair of blue jeans and probably brown boots of some kind..try to find one nice solid tree instead of a million tiny ones to position your artist behind..at least for the clips where you wanna showcase him singing..now if he's walking with his guitar then its cool..let me know how it goes

Not too far at all, Flicker! If you ever do a video for my band, that would be, well, almost appropriate!

Nice looking still! You'll have to post the full video when you've finished it!
