Costume and Apparel Questions

So we are in pre production and i have a question before we set costumes and what everyone is wearing in the film. What is the limitations as to what actors are allowed to wear in the film without violating copyright laws. We are pretty sure that you can not have any clothing with logos without consent from the company that created them but just wanted to verify this and also if one of the actors wears a baseball hat with a team logo on it do we need to get acceptance from the team?

If it is true that you need to get acceptance from companies to have products in the film then does anyone know about a way to get an ok from these companies to have their products in the film or do you know of companies that its easy to get product placement from??

thank you in advance!

Yes and Yes. You'll need to get the okay to use their products. There is an exception though: Say you are filming a scene in a grocery store and your character is going through the isles. You don't not need to get permission to show those products/labels. They are fair game as long as you don't single them out.

A company usually has a division that handles PR/Marketing/etc. that handles stuff like that. I'd start with their website and go from there. If all else fails, you could contact their customer service rep and see where they suggest you try.

Good luck!!
