College is a great place for young people to go to to find out who they are. The parties alone are worth the entry fee, imo. Will a degree buy you anything in this industry? No, but you'll learn some good stuff and, depending on where ya go, it will lead to your first gig. In the end, your reel is what gets ya that gig.
That said, I designed the programs at Piedmont College in NC. In two years you will learn the basics of signal flow, legal levels, ect., all the way up to editing with Avid and FCP, compositing, sound design and 2D & 3D animation. Your final is your demo reel and you'll leave with a list of regional employers hip to the DEAT program who like to hire from Piedmont.
Your degree will be in applied sciences.
