sound Composing for comedies

I was wondering how some other composers here approached composing for comedies. It seems to me that comedy score music tends to be written in an non-orchestral "song" format, such as a jazz piece, etc. When the movie is a dramatic comedy, the music tends to be more classical but overexaggerated.

Are my assessments correct? In what other ways do you guys do it?
