Did you attend this workshop with Ms. Diaz? I think it helps screenwriter to learn about the Hero's Journey which she alludes to. It is not the only 'formula' used in movies, but it is the most well-known.

Thanks for sharing this clip. It outlines some of the important functions of characters that make for good stories: protagonist, antagonist, herald, mentor, etc. A good film has a good story. A good story hinges on the characters and their relationships.
