Capturing audio from a Glidecam shot?

Hey there,

I've done a quick search of this forum and I did find a similar question but it wasn't quite what I was looking for so here goes, how would you go about capturing audio for a tracking shot? Would it be with a boom and just try your best to not get it in shot or wireless mics?

Thanks in advance!!

Depends on the width of the shot. Boom, absolutely unless the shot is so wide that you simply cannot get within a reasonable working distance. Wireless lav systems are a fall-back, a last resort whe the boom just can't get in.

It's the boom op's job to work with the DoP to block the mic's frame lines throughout the shot, same as the actors' movements have to be blocked, before the first frame is exposed.

Glide cams and similar shots require a fair amount of planning and rehearsal; the sound team should be included. Long booms, lavs and plant mics are all a part of the process. The big question is whether you have a lot of dialog going on during the shot. Get dialog wilds. You may have to ADR.
