Canon XL2

Hi, I have an xl2 and it seems that the film is beyon grainy, just looks smeary really. Is this normal. I was thinking of selling / trading it for something around the same price range that is more crisp, perhaps something that has HD. Any suggestions on how to clean up this camera or recommend something around the same price (or cheaper)

Are you using lighting? The best camera out there won't loook very good (under most circumstances) without the scene being lit well.

Yes I have strong lighting.

Check your gain control. If it's set to auto gain (and you aim at a shadow) or a high gain setting, you will get noise.

I have an XL1s, but it's pretty much the same. I use a constant 1/60 shutter and adjust aperture, lighting and use ND filters to control exposure. I never mess with the gain (left at zero) for this very reason.
