Can The Sound Guys Recommend . . .

That's a pretty nice set-up for the price. Have you called B&H? They may be willing to give you a break on buying separate items to make up a similar kit. Just about anything I recommend, using the NTG-3 as the shotgun, will add about $300 to that price.

Not that the Audio Technica is bad, I've never used one in the field before. I think the Rode has the best sound for a budget shotgun IMHO and I've seen it used more often.

Oh lol that's the original thing you wanted to buy. Hah. Go figure.

The kit I showed you will save you $300. Make a makeshift boom pole for $30 from IndieBudget's how-to, and then get a windjammer.
