Can contextual information help promote & build viewers of Indie films?

Could VidTaggr be a good tool for film makers?

Hi all,

As a big movie fan, several years ago I came up with an idea for letting people add contextual information to videos that would display in real-time with what's on screen. Now that we've launched the website, I'd like to hear from real Indie film makers (and fans) to see if this would be fun and/or useful when promoting Indie films.

This is NOT intended to be an ad, but a question or request for review from film makers - http://VidTaggr.com is the site that lets anyone with a Facebook account add fun/useful/interesting "Taggs" to videos, which will then be displayed (in real-time) to the next viewer who uses VidTaggr.

The possibilities are great... the current tagg types are:
  • Trivia - fun facts/interesting info about the current image.
  • People - links/information about the actor or character on screen.
  • Geography - Filming locations, links to Google/Bing maps.
  • Goof - Mistakes and other stuff the viewers shouldn't see/know.
  • Music - Info about the background music, the song title, the artist, etc.
  • Comment - General comments that don't fit into other tagg types.
  • Quote - "I am your father." and all those memorable quotes.
  • Product - Point out that this is a Huffy Bike in the scene, or brand of coffee being used.

I've always loved the commentary tracks because they can give so much insight to a scene/character/film, but I always want MORE - but there just isn't enough time to talk about every aspect of every scene.

SO... As an Indie Film Maker or Indie Film Fan, would VidTaggr be fun? Useful? Interesting? Worth your time to tagg a film? To share with others?

It would be great if a film maker put a TON of taggs on their DVD/YouTube video then shared the link with their fans. I'd love to hear what the feedback is like.

Thanks!

Dave
