I know I'm asking a lot of my lead actress. I realize I'm going to have a hard time casting this role. But, I figured I could weed out the whishy-washy through each step of my personal process.
Basic Ad: Nancy Nelson - Lead / FEMALE / 20 TO 28 / Caucasian
A midwestern ingenue, who is living in NY working as a waitress. She's hard-working, curious, bright, and naive.
This role is for a FEARLESS actress. This role does require some nudity. A micro-budget production. No upfront pay.
Over a hundred people applied.
I then sent them an introduction to the audition. Where I spelled out what micro-budget means to me. 3 crew, do your own make-up, have fun. I spelled out all the nudity that was required. Then, if they weren't frightened off, they had to read the full script.
Here's basically what most had to say: YES I'd like to audition. Actually this is an incredibly role and I would really love to take part. Let me know the details and can't wait to meet you.
Others who didn't want to audition, came flat out and said they were afraid I was going to kill them. Some who do want to audition have the same fear. But, they're braver.
I have about 20 actresses who want to audition. I picked out eight for next Sunday (I'm going to see people for other roles also). I sent an e-mail with the time and place, and asked for everyone to confirm whether they were going to show up. Most from the lesser roles responded quickly. Only one of the eight Nancy's has responded.
If someone takes the time and effort to ensure that only the truly willing step forward. Why can't they at least have the decency to respond? If I fill in their time slots with others, I'm screwed if they decide to show up.
