Call For Entries: The Westcliffe Digital Film Festival - Early Deadline 5/31/04. Final Deadline 6/30/04
"This is a guerilla film festival THAT GIVES 100% OF ITS PROFITS BACK TO THE FILMMAKERS IN THE FORM OF GRANTS TOWARD THEIR NEXT FILM. This all digital (DV) festival is most interested in the new wave of cinema artists who film their vision, self-finance their projects, and possess the true, independent spirit of filmmaking (unlike Sundance and other Hollywood-Lite fests).
WESTCLIFFE, CO--The first annual Westcliffe Digital Film Festival, (a REAL independent film festival) which will be held on Friday-Sunday, August 27-29, 2004, was created to showcase the defiantly independent filmmaker. It is most interested in the new wave of cinema artists who film their vision, self-finance their projects, and possess the true, independent spirit of filmmaking (unlike Sundance and other Hollywood-Lite fests).
The Westcliffe Digital Film Festival is a guerilla film festival, independently produced by Westcliffe Independent Film Association, a 501(c) non-profit organization.
The festival has NO SPONSORS, NO GIFT BAGS and NO 4-STAR HOTELS. The festival exists to showcase the best in independent film in a Colorado town that is decidedly independent, has a growing film scene and enthusiastically supports the arts.
And most importantly, 100% OF ALL PROFITS FROM THE FESTIVAL ARE GIVEN BACK TO THE PARTICIPATING FILMMAKERS in the form of grants toward their next film.
"There're very few TRUE independent films anymore at Sundance and other major film festivals," said Kenneth Wajda, festival director. "This is about breaking out from the festival pack, to getting back to putting the films first, getting inspired by hobnobbing with other indie filmmakers and cutting out all the bullsh--. There will be no red carpets. All profits from the festival go to the filmmakers, period."
Nestled next to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Westcliffe Digital Film Festival is dedicated to discoving the best, brightest and truly independent cinema artists who are self-financing their visions and maintaining complete creative control and final cut over their work.
The festival offers indoor screenings, panel discussions with special guests, great parties and a giant outdoor screen to showcase features under the stars.
The festival jury will present prize money and awards to films selected as best in these categories: Narrative Feature, Narrative Short, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short, Experimental and Animation. An Audience Choice award will also be presented.
A Call for Entries has been made and DV filmmakers are asked to submit films now for consideration in the festival. The early deadline is May 31, 2004 and the late deadline is June 30, 2004. Submission forms are located on the festival's website at http://www.WestcliffeDigitalFilmFestival.com.
The Westcliffe Digital Film Festival is the place to find the new Godard, Rodriguez, Jarmusch, Wenders and Sayles. Defiantly independent!
The festival director can be contacted at 719-783-9283."
