bloody audio

I f**kin hate audio. I don't know how the f**k to do it. I can't even seem to learn. Nobody I know knows how the f**k to do it either. F**kin' blows. Where are these f**king audio people f**king hiding?

f*ck audio.

Thanks for reading my rant. I feel better now. Alcove stop laughing that evil laugh.

F**k what? I couldn't hear you. I got no audio.

Seriously, though.
Can you tell us about the situation's environment, equipment, and issues with the end result?

Often wreckage investigations are quite useful themselves.

Now you know why we get the big bucks!!!

Oh, wait, nobody wants to pay us, because they think they can do it themselves.......

Which is why you can't find anybody because we've all retired and moved on to more profitable ventures like philately.

I thought I'd posted a craigslist ad for an audio guy and nobody was responding. so I got mad. that's all. I was just thinking in my head... "these goddamn audio people are killing me..." so I thought I'd shout at everybody.

But what happened was that I'm a really stupid guy. I don't think I ever really completed the posting. So now I reposted

http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/tfr/2890246457.html

Hopefully some audio guy will have mercy on me. Maybe I'll send him my rant.

On a serious note, I think I want to start paying for audio going forward as a matter of budgeting. I think I can handle video to some degree. But the potential for audio to kill a shoot just cannot be tolerated any more.

Also, I think I need to update my shotgun microphone. but I'll still pay the audio guy. I just hope I meet a good one and can continue to work with him/her.

the location sound recordist was the only paid position

Lots of folks want to direct. They will happily learn to run a camera, light a shot, etc. because they can SEE it and it relates to motion pictures. Nobody ever says, "I want to be a boom-op" or "I want to be a production sound mixer." Most really good production sound people got into it sort of sideways. I started out doing production sound when I went to a cattle call for extras. They found out that I had audio experience (music recording engineer) and I was an instant production sound mixer for that shoot.

Sound is the most difficult for most people to understand because they were never taught to listen and never taught audio physics, audio technology or acoustics. For every 10,000 people who want to direct there is only one person who knows what they're doing when it comes to sound.

My first exposure ever to filmmaking was on an indie set in Hawaii. I showed up, they handed me the boom and yelled action. I was the sound guy 5 minutes in on my first set. The movie never was finished

got more than a few good responses to the $100 offer.
Got one nasty email telling me to f off (which I fully appreciate. I'd do the same if someone asked me to shoot for them for $100)

Ended up hiring a professional audio guy I knew. He asked for $150. I think its a fantastic deal. I think I'll learn a lot watching him work.

Thanks for reading my earlier rant. Audio guys are wonderful. In fact I think they're f**king wonderful. I just f**cking love them to bits. I mean it. And I'm not sucking up to Alcove either.

cheers

You may suck at audio, but all of your F-bombs came in loud and clear. :D

Glad you found someone. Capturing solid audio is critical and a key position. Nothing to be f'ed with.

Hope they don't F it up for you. Have a good f'ing shoot! ; )

Haha yeah. I know what you mean. I have a bunch of TV shows to edit audio for arriving this week. I am hoping that when I hear them the sound will be reasonable to start with, and so to to make my job easier. But typically, the guy that is behind the making of the shows, originally wanted to record all the sound just from camera mics, and have the video editors do the post on the audio as well, to SAVE MONEY. However, they were at least finally persuaded to record mostly with shotguns and Lavs etc off camera, and hopefully I will also get to record most of the voice over so I have control over that aspect of it. But Some people don't learn. Apparently the last shows he did ( which have been bought by a number of networks who play them) were originally rejected, not because of bad picture, but because of bad audio. He spent a fortune on audio post production to get them up to scratch. But then he wanted to do el cheapo audio recording again!!Go figure!!

I'll go right back to my typical statement... Audio is so much more than 50% -- so important. And as a non-immediate feedback craft, it really takes something to get people to "get" it.

This is why I've tried to push "visualizing" the sound to be able to learn to work with it, even if not directly.
