watch Blindsight, 48 hour comedy short film

A black comedy film from New Zealand following the latest case of a private eye specialising in finding lost things; heading to the femme fatale's home on a mission to find some lost keys something more sinister appears to be at work... Shot by David Collins and Lollicake as part of a 48 hour film challenge this film rises well above the constraints of the 48hr approach to create a simply all round great short film.

Thank you for posting this. I really enjoyed the short. Every aspect on the technical side was very well executed...for future reference I would relax on the rack-focus a bit...that technique is quickly becoming over-used in the indie circuit. Yes, we all have nice digital cameras with adapters and lenses now (well, not all of us)...but I think the back and forth rack is a bit jarring, and a noticeable gimmick. But hey, I'm just being picky.

The director I work with refuses to use adapters and lenses...says he doesn't need them to create the appearance of DOF--he prefers to use lighting and framing to achieve the same effect. And to be honest, in this directors case I see his point, and it's not needed. Personally, I think using adapters and lenses looks sweet, and is allowing indie directors the chance to create Hollywood level films on a much, much smaller budget. As long as it's not abused.

I loved the flick. Not only was it technically savvy, but damn entertaining as well. Clever, and well acted.

Thanks for the comments! Agree there was a lot of focus pulls and pushes and so on, we all love our new toys! I just think the team did such a good job in 48hrs, most stuff you see out of those contests is awful.
