editing Best SD to HD Upscaling

I am looking for the best method in upscaling a movie I have made. We filmed in standard def (30fps - 720x480) and it's now being scored, so I have some time to fiddle with colour correction and upping the quality. I mean, it's not bad quality, but I'm hoping to get it to at least 720p for a crisper image when we screen the film.

I have tried InstandHD in Premiere CS4, I managed to render a scene with it but since then it's just crashes the program. Also wasn't much of a noticable difference.

I just tried a suggestion using VirtualDub, Avisynth and the SD2HD codec pack thing for it. Came out with a 9GB file (original MPEG2 is 30MB) and it was choppy and wouldn't playback properly. Was 720p but even the sound was choppy, and I can usually play 1080p films just fine.

So I'm looking for the best method for a relative easy but smooth SD to HD conversion, all help is appreciated!

The plug in from RED GIANT software called INSTANT HD does the best job I've seen. Takes a long while to process, but worth it for quality.

I have tried that but it crashes my Premiere. The settings are confusing too! But I'll give it another try if it eventually works.

So I should import a standard def clip into a HD project, and then add the InstantHD?

For some reason it wasn't working, the resolution was 1280x720 but the video was just one frame for a second or two and was of really bad quality, I could see the pixels. It wasn't like this when playing in AE. Wasn't compressing it on output either.

Is there a better method than InstantHD? I've not had an amazing experience with it the couple of times that I have used it.
