Auditions- My Father's House Is Divided- video auditions only
Auditions for actors: Please submit a video audition performing two 1-2minutes monologue (no profanity and no idle performance, ex. sitting on a stool delivering a monologue). Be sure to have excellent lighting for close ups to see facial expressions and full body movements. Once the videos have been reviewed those selected will receive a personal call back. At that point an appointment will be set for an in-person audition. Please bring a close-up head shot along with resume: include all talents and hobbies as well as good contact information, such as email address and telephone number, and be prepared for a cold reading. Audition dates will begin on August 27, 2011- October 31, 2011. NO AUDITIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER OCTOBER 31, 2011. Call backs will begin the first and second week in December 2011. Play Overview
The announcement of Cheyenne and Jonathan’s engagement reveals a hidden secret from his childhood which forces him to choose between the woman he loves and the man who loved him like a son. During this struggle Cheyenne and Jonathan learn that even wolves in sheep’s clothing call on the name of Jesus and so they are faced with the realization that racism is alive in the Church. But, knowing God’s truth and the support from friends strengthens them and help them hold everything together. “What God has put together let no man set asunder.” Meanwhile Jada’s search for her identity and family roots sets her on a path to a painful truth and a new family.
The Cast Cast Description
Jonathan - 25yrs old /Caucasian w/ a natural urban, soulful personality/ 6’1ft 195-200lbs/Natural tan/Cherry Blonde/blue eyes/Law Student-graduated top 5 of his class. He’s a working intern at a prestigious law firm, up for a junior position, and who walks freely in his Christian faith.
Cheyenne Simms- African-Am 23yrs old/ 5’5ft 130lbs/Cocoa skin/Natural hair/Brown eyes, somewhat soft spoken and lady like. Has a degree in Graphic Designs; she’s a PK who grapples w/race and religion and loves the lake.
Jada- Bi-racial 23yrs old/5’5 120lbs/caramel skin/hazel eyes HBCU student/ Anti-white/Pro-Black, sassy attitude, very smart and college friend of Cheyenne who does not approve of Jonathan/Cheyenne.
Adrelle- African-Am22yrs old/5’3ft 150lbs/Mahogany Skin/. She is a supportive childhood friend who supports Jonathan and Cheyenne. Trade School- Hairstylist. “Big Phine”- New Orleans Ghetto Fabulous-voluptuous and confident.
Ronald- African-Am 24yrs old/Athletic physic/ 5’11ft .Jonathan’s roommate who majored in marketing. He’s a “playa, playa” living a carefree life.
Derwin- A bi-racial friend of both Cheyenne and Jonathan, very articulate and eccentric/anti-organized religion because of the racial divide. He has shaggy curly hair/fair skin/ dress rugged travelers type.
Bishop: Simms- Mid 40s African-Am FGB (Full Gospel Baptist) Preacher mild mannered, but speaks out against the many controversial/political and racial things that ails the Body of Christ.
Mrs. Vanessa Simms African- Am First Lady
Mr. DeLeon- Southern accent ; Caucasian First Southern Baptist background; mid 60(s) 5’11, very good looking with medium muscular built, sandy brown hair and is very fond of Jonathan, but has a secret.
