I love this book... it's a treatise on the importance of sound in motion pictures. And looking for it, I found a PDF online for free which is probably illegal, but as I'm unsure, I'm not going to link to it, instead...

There's a ton of "how" books, this one is a "why" book... I think it's more valuable to be able to understand why something works rather than just how... it allows for one to abstract the information into new and novel situations.
