Doesn't this mean XLR in & out?
Input
* XLR female (standard, rear panel only)
* 3.5mm TRS minijack (front or rear panel)
* Optional mini-XLR (front or rear panel)
Output
* RCA (standard rear panel output)
* Optional 3.5mm TRS minijack (front or rear panel, balanced or stereo unbalanced)
* Optional mini-XLR
* XLR with bigbox case size
* Other connectors upon request
Looks like XLR is an option for the big box version.
Can't speak to how it sounds but here's the drawbacks:
RCA output connectors
No spec. for battery life
For about $100 more, you can get the SD MM-1.
The sound is much better than its competitors. The gain control is easy to use. XLR in. Line 1/8 inch out.
It has pretty good battery life, the AA nbatteries die it automatically switches to lith ion so it doesn't just die and gives you time to change the AA.
I don't know why it matters for the output since its an eternal recorder not a mixer. Also why you're comparing a preamp to a recorder without knowing what camera op is using.
Overall best recorder in this price range when not using a mixer.

I'm confused, the litttle box isn't a recorder is it? I thought it's just a preamp?
