Are editors involved in Pre-prod ?

Hi guys,

I am currently going for funding for a short film (I'm the editor) and I want to be prepared as possible/improve my skills in any way I can. Hence I was wondering how an editor approaches a project before the film is shot. Are there are any techniques/routines you employ to prepare for a project?!

Generally with editors I've worked with, their only real involvement in pre is talking to the DP and Producer about the Post Workflow, and particularly the DP about how it's going to be shot, in what colour space, format, how sound will be synced etc.
During Production they usually sync dailies and then it's really post when they (obviously) do all their work
